All female bodies displayed in art are objectified, even if the art does not seem to be presenting them in a sexualized way, and even if the artist is objectifying herself. The appeal is to the male gaze and it reinforces the idea that men should have unlimited access to women’s bodies. We look at ourselves through men’s eyes: there is no female gaze in a male-dominated culture.
