Someone who isn’t very familiar with the artistic process asked me whether love is an vital ingredient for every painting an artist does.
Of course it is. It’s impossible to create something that doesn’t have something of oneself in it.
But to put this in perspective, it’s necessary to know that love comes in different forms. Western culture puts so much emphasis on sexual love, to the detriment of all the other kinds.
The kind of love that goes into my work could be described as a love for humanity, a desire to contribute something to the greater good.
And this, even though humanity often disappoints me.
