Some dude replied to one of my posts to enlighten me with his dudely opinion. Isn’t it funny how statements that open with “No offense” turn out to be the most offensive things ever?
No offence, but I would never date a radical feminist woman. As an autistic person, I face enough hurdles in terms of interacting with other people in the right way as it is without having to worry about whether the particular way in which I’m looking at a woman is an exercise of my male privilege or whatever. Sorry.
So for this dude, being autistic is an excuse to revel in privilege without checking it ever. And it’s like he expects me to feel sorry for him because it’s so hard for him to function socially that he just can’t be arsed to care whether he’s oppressing women.
Dude, being autistic is no excuse for being a privilege-denying asshole. Temple Grandin is just as autistic as you are and it doesn’t stop her from caring about bigger issues than herself.
Autism isn’t some kind of get-out-of-social-justice-free card.
THANK YOU FOR ILLUSTRATING MY POINT FOR ME, YOU STUPID, PATHETIC ARSEWIPE! AS FOR YOUR ACCUSATION THAT I’M TRYING TO ELICIT YOUR SYMPATHY, WHY WOULD I DO ANY SUCH FUCKING THING? WHY WOULD I WANT THE SYMPATHY OF A PIECE OF SHIT LIKE YOU?
ALSO, HAS IT FUCKING WELL OCCURRED TO YOU THAT THE OPPRESSION THAT YOU SUFFER FOR BEING FEMALE ISN’T THE ONLY FORM OF OPPRESSION IN THE WORLD THAT MATTERS, THAT JUST AS I’M PRIVILEGED BY BEING MALE, YOU’RE PRIVILEGED BY NOT BEING DISABLED? NO, OF COURSE, IT HASN’T!
EGOTISTICAL SHIT-HEAD!
No, thank YOU for illustrating MY point for me.
I love the way you assume I’m not disabled. 😀
‘I love the way you assume I’m not disabled’
I sincerely apologise if you are.
‘Isn’t it funny how statements that open with “No offense” turn out to be the most offensive things ever?’
Isn’t it funny that you were seemingly more offended by a polite explanation of why I would never date a radical feminist than you were by me shouting abuse at you? Ironi,c isn’t it, that that which was not in the least intended to wound caused you more anger than that which most definitely was?
I love the way you assume that I even care about what you say on my blog. I put your post up because I was bored. Normally I just delete asshole comments like yours. “Men don’t like radical feminists!” What an original thing to say. Yawn.
Why are you on my blog, since you don’t like radical feminists? Run along and play now. Shoo.
I’ve been doing a bit of soul-searching and concluded that there were underlying hostile motives behind my original post that I wasn’t fully conscious of at the time, probably because I wasn’t totally honest with myself. With this in mind, for what it’s worth, I’d like to apologise for my original post.
I also apologise for screaming abuse at you. I now see my tirade in response to your reply to my original post as an expression of resentment towards you for recognising what I wasn’t honest enough to admit to myself, namely the hostile intent behind my original post, and responding accordingly.
I did not intend in my original post to convey the impression of seeking to use my autism to try and elicit sympathy from you or to evade my responsibility to care about social justice, but I can see now how I led you to think that I was doing those things. All I will say is that I have many vices, but I’d like to think that using my autism either to try to attract people’s sympathy for me or to absolve myself of responsibilities is not among my numerous character flaws. I utterly regret having misled you into thinking that it is.
As it happens, I do care deeply about social justice, even if I have (probably) a somewhat different view from you of what it entails. I consider myself a feminist (or supporter of feminism, if you prefer), though you probably wouldn’t regard me as a supporter of feminism since I identify with socialist rather than radical feminism, and you don’t consider any feminism other than radical feminism as true feminism. Nevertheless, I share your desire for a world free from gendered oppression and I hope that, whatever our ideological differences, you’ll agree with me that class, racial, ablist, sexuality-based and all other forms of oppression, discrimination and disadvantage are also scourges that urgently need consigning to history!
